ECORR Systems offers Cortec® cleaners and degreasers for removing oil, grease, dirt, processing fluids, fingerprints, salts, and other contaminants from metal parts, machinery, equipment, and industrial surfaces.
As an Authorized Cortec® Distributor, ECORR Systems helps manufacturers, maintenance teams, parts processors, and equipment operators select cleaning products based on the contaminant, substrate, application method, cleaning temperature, residue requirements, and need for corrosion protection after cleaning.
Conventional cleaning may leave freshly exposed metal vulnerable to flash rust, particularly when water-based products are used on ferrous metals. Selected Cortec® cleaners combine cleaning performance with corrosion-inhibiting technology to help protect metal during and after the cleaning process.
Depending on the formulation, a Cortec® cleaner may remove light oils, heavy grease, machining residue, salts, fingerprints, shop dirt, carbon deposits, or other industrial soils while providing temporary protection against corrosion.
Contaminants left on metal can interfere with coatings, adhesives, lubricants, assembly operations, inspection, packaging, and corrosion protection. Salts, acidic residue, fingerprints, and trapped moisture can also create localized corrosion during storage or shipment.
Proper cleaning helps establish a consistent surface for the next production or preservation step. The cleaning method should remove the targeted contamination without damaging the metal, coating, plastic, seal, or other materials present.
Water-based cleaners can provide an alternative to traditional solvent cleaning for many industrial applications. Depending on the formulation, they may be diluted to match the soil level and applied by spraying, wiping, immersion, pressure washing, or automated cleaning equipment.
Heavy-duty cleaners are formulated for demanding applications involving grease, oil, shop dirt, and other difficult industrial contaminants. Product concentration, dwell time, temperature, agitation, and rinsing requirements should be matched to the equipment and soil.
Low-foaming formulations are useful in spray washers, pressure-cleaning systems, flow-through equipment, and automated operations where excessive foam can interfere with cleaning performance or equipment operation.
Selected Cortec® cleaners leave corrosion inhibitors on compatible metal surfaces after cleaning. This can help reduce flash rust and provide temporary protection during in-process holding, inspection, assembly, packaging, or indoor storage.
ElectriCorr™ cleaners are formulated for compatible electrical and electronic equipment. Selected products can remove contamination while depositing a thin corrosion-inhibiting film on contacts, connectors, panels, motors, controls, and electronic assemblies.
Cortec® offers selected cleaners formulated with biobased ingredients or designed to meet specific environmental objectives. Biobased content, biodegradability, regulatory status, and safety characteristics apply to individual formulations and should be confirmed before selection.
Rust removers address corrosion products and metal oxides rather than ordinary grease and dirt. They may be appropriate when existing rust, tarnish, or scale must be removed before coating, packaging, assembly, or further processing.

A general cleaner is typically used for dirt, dust, fingerprints, light oils, and surface contamination. A degreaser is formulated to break down heavier oils, lubricants, grease, and industrial soils.
Some Cortec® products perform both functions, but cleaning strength, alkalinity, dilution, application method, and material compatibility vary. The product should be selected according to the heaviest soil present and the sensitivity of the surface being cleaned.
A cleaner or degreaser removes surface contaminants such as oil, grease, dirt, and processing residue. A rust remover reacts with or loosens existing corrosion products and metal oxides.
A heavily contaminated and rusted part may require both steps: cleaning or degreasing first, followed by rust removal. The surface may then need to be rinsed, neutralized, dried, or protected according to the selected products and next process.
Cortec® cleaners and degreasers may support several application methods, depending on the specific formulation:
Always confirm that the product is suitable for the intended equipment, temperature, pressure, and application method.
The correct product depends on the type and amount of contamination, substrate, cleaning equipment, process temperature, desired drying time, acceptable residue, corrosion protection requirements, and the next manufacturing or maintenance step.
Important questions include whether the cleaner must be low foaming, whether rinsing is possible, whether the cleaned part will be painted or packaged, and whether the formulation must be compatible with aluminum, copper, galvanized steel, plastics, elastomers, or existing coatings.
Concentrated cleaners should be diluted according to the current product instructions. A heavier soil may require a stronger concentration, longer dwell time, higher permitted temperature, or additional agitation. Excessively strong concentrations may waste product or create unnecessary rinsing and compatibility problems.
Never allow a cleaner to dry on the surface unless the technical data sheet specifically permits it. Test the product on a small, inconspicuous area when cleaning an unfamiliar substrate, coating, plastic, or elastomer.
Metal parts should be clean and dry before being enclosed in VpCI® bags, films, or papers. Fingerprints, salts, acidic residue, and contaminated process fluids can remain active inside a package and reduce the effectiveness of the preservation system.
When a corrosion-inhibiting cleaner is used, confirm whether its remaining film is compatible with the selected packaging material, coating, lubricant, or subsequent manufacturing operation.
Cleaner safety and environmental characteristics vary by formulation. Review the current safety data sheet for required personal protective equipment, ventilation, handling, storage, spill response, and disposal information.
Wastewater requirements depend on the cleaning product and the contaminants removed from the surface. A cleaner described as biodegradable or biobased does not automatically make contaminated wash water suitable for unrestricted discharge.

ECORR Systems is an Authorized Cortec® Distributor helping manufacturers, maintenance professionals, parts processors, and industrial facilities select cleaners and degreasers for specific contaminants, substrates, and cleaning processes.
We can help evaluate the soil, metal type, application equipment, cleaning temperature, dilution, rinsing requirements, corrosion protection needs, and next process to identify an appropriate Cortec® cleaning product.
Depending on the formulation, Cortec® cleaners may remove oils, grease, dirt, salts, fingerprints, machining residue, shop soils, carbon deposits, and other industrial contaminants.
Selected Cortec® cleaners contain corrosion inhibitors that can help reduce flash rust and provide temporary protection after cleaning. Protection level and duration depend on the product, dilution, substrate, rinsing process, and storage environment.
Many Cortec® cleaners are supplied as concentrates and may be diluted according to the product instructions. The proper concentration depends on the soil level, cleaning method, temperature, and required corrosion protection.
Some formulations are designed for multi-metal cleaning, but compatibility varies. Aluminum, copper, brass, galvanized steel, coatings, plastics, and elastomers should be identified before selecting a cleaner.
Selected formulations may be suitable for pressure washing or spray-cleaning equipment. Foaming characteristics, dilution, equipment compatibility, runoff collection, and wastewater requirements should be reviewed before use.
Rinsing requirements vary by product and the next process. Some cleaners require rinsing, while selected products may leave a temporary corrosion-inhibiting film. Follow the current technical data sheet.
Parts should be adequately dry and free from incompatible residue before packaging. If a protective film remains, confirm that it is compatible with the VpCI® bag, film, paper, coating, or subsequent operation.
Certain Cortec® cleaners are classified as biodegradable or contain biobased ingredients. These characteristics apply only to specific formulations and do not determine how contaminated wastewater must be handled.
Yes. ECORR Systems can review the contaminant, substrate, cleaning process, equipment, temperature, dilution, rinsing requirements, and corrosion protection needs to help identify an appropriate Cortec® product.
