ECORR Systems provides Cortec® VpCI® corrosion protection solutions for industrial boiler systems, commercial heating plants, power-generation facilities, manufacturing operations, institutional facilities, and boiler service companies. These products help protect boilers and related equipment from corrosion during operation, inspection, maintenance, seasonal shutdown, standby, and long-term layup.
As an Authorized Cortec® Distributor, ECORR Systems offers boiler water treatment products, Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors, cleaners, rust and scale removers, protective coatings, and wet and dry layup solutions designed to support reliable boiler maintenance and asset preservation.
Boiler systems are exposed to water, oxygen, heat, dissolved solids, changing operating conditions, and chemical contaminants that can contribute to corrosion and scale formation. During shutdown, the remaining moisture and oxygen inside a boiler can create an especially aggressive environment for unprotected metal surfaces.
Corrosion may affect boiler tubes, drums, headers, waterside surfaces, fireside areas, feedwater systems, deaerators, condensate return lines, heat exchangers, and associated piping. Rust and corrosion products can restrict flow, contaminate the system, delay startup, reduce heat-transfer efficiency, and shorten the usable life of valuable equipment.
Cortec® VpCI® technology helps protect metal by forming a molecular corrosion-inhibiting layer on exposed surfaces. In compatible boiler applications, Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors can migrate through enclosed spaces to protect recessed areas, internal cavities, and metal surfaces above the waterline that conventional contact-only treatments may not reach.
Cortec® offers solutions for operating water systems, dry boiler layup, wet boiler layup, hydrostatic testing, startup protection, equipment cleaning, and long-term preservation. The appropriate product and treatment method depend on the boiler design, metallurgy, operating pressure, water chemistry, shutdown period, and required return-to-service time.
Dry layup is commonly used when a boiler will remain offline for an extended period and rapid startup is not required. Even after draining, residual moisture and humid air can remain inside the boiler and create conditions that promote corrosion.
Cortec® dry layup products use Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor technology to distribute protective vapors throughout enclosed boiler spaces. Depending on the boiler size, metal types, and area being protected, dry layup options may include Boiler Gecko™, Boiler Lizard®, Boiler Lizard® Plus, Boiler Dragon™, and other boiler-preservation products.
Some Cortec® dry layup products are supplied in water-soluble packaging or formulated for fogging into the boiler. Product selection and removal requirements must be confirmed for the waterside, fireside, boiler volume, system metallurgy, and planned recommissioning procedure.
Wet layup may be preferred for standby boilers that must return to service quickly or for systems where completely draining and drying the equipment is impractical. However, untreated water, dissolved oxygen, and unprotected headspace above the waterline can increase the risk of corrosion during the shutdown period.
Cortec® offers wet layup corrosion inhibitors designed to circulate through compatible boiler systems and provide protection below the waterline, at the air-water interface, and within enclosed headspace. Available options may include VpCI® Iguana, VpCI® Salamander, VpCI® Turtle, VpCI® Chameleon™, and other application-specific water treatment products.
Effective wet layup requires the selected treatment to be properly distributed throughout the boiler and connected system. Dosage, circulation, water chemistry, steam use, metallurgy, and discharge requirements should be evaluated before selecting a product.
Existing rust, scale, mineral deposits, oil, and process contamination may need to be removed before a boiler is inspected, repaired, treated, or placed into layup. Proper cleaning helps expose the underlying metal and supports more effective inspection and corrosion protection.
Cortec® offers cleaners, rust removers, and scale-removal products for compatible boiler components and water systems. The correct cleaning procedure depends on the deposit, base metal, system construction, operating history, wastewater requirements, and boiler manufacturer’s recommendations.

Cortec® boiler corrosion protection products can help facilities reduce rust during shutdown, simplify boiler preservation, protect internal surfaces, and support a smoother return to service. Proper layup can also help reduce corrosion-related cleaning, repairs, plugged components, startup delays, and premature equipment replacement.
Cortec® offers alternatives to traditional preservation practices such as desiccants, continuous dry-air systems, nitrogen blanketing, and certain conventional layup chemicals. Depending on the application, Cortec® products may reduce monitoring requirements, simplify application, and eliminate some of the labor associated with removing traditional preservation materials before startup.
Boiler layup is not limited to equipment that remains unused for an entire season. Corrosion protection may be appropriate whenever a boiler is drained, opened, placed on standby, taken offline for repairs, or exposed to humid conditions without its normal operating water treatment program.
ECORR Systems is an Authorized Cortec® Distributor helping boiler operators, facility managers, water treatment professionals, maintenance contractors, engineers, and industrial buyers identify suitable corrosion-control products for boiler systems and related equipment.
Whether you need a dry layup product, wet layup treatment, boiler water additive, rust remover, descaler, protective coating, or guidance for preserving replacement parts, ECORR Systems can help evaluate the boiler volume, metallurgy, water chemistry, operating conditions, shutdown duration, application method, and recommissioning requirements.
A boiler can retain moisture after it is drained or opened for maintenance. When this moisture combines with oxygen inside the system, unprotected steel surfaces may begin to corrode. Condensation, untreated makeup water, process contamination, and changing temperatures can increase the risk.
Dry layup generally involves draining the boiler and protecting the internal surfaces while the system remains offline. Wet layup keeps the boiler filled with treated water so it can usually return to service more quickly. The correct method depends on the shutdown duration, boiler design, operating requirements, and available maintenance procedures.
Cortec® dry layup options may include Boiler Gecko™, Boiler Lizard®, Boiler Lizard® Plus, Boiler Dragon™, and other VpCI® products selected according to boiler size, metallurgy, and whether waterside or fireside surfaces are being protected.
Requirements vary by product. Certain Cortec® boiler layup products can tolerate some residual moisture, while others require specific preparation and application conditions. Standing water, system cleanliness, product placement, and the manufacturer’s technical instructions must be considered before treatment.
Certain Cortec® boiler treatments contain Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors that migrate through enclosed headspace and form a protective molecular layer on metal surfaces above the treated water. This can provide an advantage over contact-only inhibitors that protect only submerged surfaces.
Removal requirements depend on the specific product and where it is applied. Some waterside products are designed to dissolve when the boiler is refilled, while products used on fireside surfaces or in sensitive systems may require removal or another defined recommissioning procedure. Always follow the applicable product data sheet and boiler operating requirements.
Product selection must account for how the steam will be used and whether it may contact food, pharmaceuticals, process materials, or high-purity equipment. Only a product specifically approved for the intended application should be used, and all applicable regulatory, plant, and boiler-manufacturer requirements must be followed.
Yes. ECORR Systems can help review the boiler type, internal volume, metallurgy, water chemistry, operating pressure, shutdown duration, layup method, steam use, and startup requirements to identify an appropriate Cortec® corrosion protection product.
